Top LeT Commander Umar Khanday Killed in Pampore Encounter: Police

Srinagar 16 October (KNB): Top LeT commander Umar Mushtaq Khanday who was trapped in an encounter site in Dragbal area of Pampore has been killed by security forces, said police on Saturday afternoon.

As per police, the slain militant commander had killed the two cops in Srinagar at Barzulla this year when they were having tea at a shop in the area.

They said that Khanday was involved in various other militancy related crimes. Police said that they are committed to hunt down these militants who try to create fear among masses and spread mischief & tumult in the valley.

Earlier IGP Kashmir Vijay Kumar told reporters at Press Enclave that the militants were given a chance to surrender but they refused.

He further said that the encounter took time because the militants were hiding in a three storey concrete building.

On the recent civilian killings, IGP-K refuted any security lapse issue in the killings and said that every soft target is impossible to be given protection. (KNB)
