Baramulla, May 4(KNB): Traffic congestion outside Government Medical College (GMC) Baramulla continues to disrupt the smooth movement of vehicles, including ambulances, causing concern among patients and attendants.
The hospital road, already narrow, remains frequently blocked due to haphazard parking on both sides. Locals said that many vehicles are left unattended, leaving little space for emergency passage. The situation is further worsened by roadside vendors occupying portions of the road.
Residents also alleged that no traffic personnel are deployed on this crucial stretch, despite the heavy rush and the sensitive nature of the area.
On Monday, an ambulance carrying a critically ill patient was reportedly stuck for several minutes due to the congestion. Eyewitnesses said the vehicle struggled to move ahead despite continuous siren alerts.
“This is not an ordinary road; it is directly linked to saving lives. Even a delay of a few minutes can prove critical,” an attendant said.
Locals and visitors have urged the district administration to take immediate steps to regulate parking, remove encroachments, and ensure proper deployment of traffic personnel to facilitate smooth movement, especially for emergency vehicles.
Despite repeated complaints, the issue persists, posing risks to patients and highlighting the urgent need for strict enforcement and better planning around the hospital premises.(KNB)
