Srinagar 05 April (KNB): Full-fledged Taekwondo activities resume in Gindun Sports Complex and intentionally reputed coach Atul Pangotra who is a two times Common Wealth Medallist and five times world championship participant representing country is going to be the key figure in planning the sessions and drafting the curriculum for the campy.
In a statement issued to news agency Kashmir News Bureau (KNB) that Atul has a Diploma in Taekwondo from Sports Authority of India’s National Institute of Sports, South Centre besides a number of certifications from Marshall Arts Centres in Korea and elsewhere. He is one of the finest coaches of taekwondo the UT has produced. Speaking to media cell, Atul said, main aim of this camp shall be to tap the talent and players who have knack for the game shall be imparted special training enabling them to represent not only J&K but country at the bigger stages. He also said, by way of this camp he is also trying to train instructors among the players who can groom budding players in the days to come. Atul was all praise for the newly created facility in the Gindun Sports Complex and said such centres will help motivate coaches and players alike to work hard and take the J&K Sports to new heights.
Divisional Sports Officer, Nuzhat Farooq who is incharge of the sports activities said that this is just a beginning and similar camps for other games shall follow soon as Sports Council is devising a module to segregate chalk from the cheese and provide best coaching facility to players of upper age groups in view of the covid protocol for lower age group. Nuzhat Farooq also informed that Gindun Sports Complex has a Health and Fitness Facility available for the athletes.
Divisional Sports Officer said the government is keen to promote sports and in light of that a Taekwondo training class was being held in Poloview Indoor Sports Complex but she observed that the space was congested and segregation of players was necessary.
She also added that shifting of Taekwondo classes to Gindun is part of the expansion programme and they are also planning to conduct special camps and regular classes for all the interested players of other games too.
The council is also planning to train people as coaches to ensure professionalism and quality in the players is duly maintained.
A section of Parents talking to media cell, expressed their pleasure and willingness to get their children enrolled in all such future programmes and were all praises for the Special Taekwondo Camp and the ensuing arrangement.
These developments come in wake of Chief Secretary, BVR Subrahmanyam’s recent statement that full-fledge sports policy for J&K is in offing.
The short function was attended by limited number of guests following Covid SOPs and it was also attended by members from some prominent Association including J&K Football Associations President Zameer Thakur, former International Footballer Majeed Kakroo, Prof Bashir Ahmad Shah former member Sports Council, Exe. Engineer and other officers and officials from J&K Sports Council.(KNB)
