Suspicious Truck Intercepted in Baramulla; Driver Dies After Security Forces Chase, Army Issues statement

Baramulla, February 5(KNB) – The Army on Thursday issued a statement regarding an incident in which a truck driver was fatally injured in a firing incident.

In a statement issued to news agency Kashmir News Bureau-KNB, army said that acting on specific intelligence inputs regarding terrorist movement, Security Forces established a Mobile Vehicle Check Post (MVCP) on February 5. A suspicious civilian truck was spotted approaching at high speed. Despite repeated warnings to stop, the vehicle accelerated while crossing the checkpoint.

Alert troops pursued the truck for over 23 kilometers, firing at its tires to bring it to a halt. The vehicle was eventually stopped at Sangrama Chowk, where a thorough search was conducted. The injured driver was immediately evacuated to GMC Baramulla by Security Forces but was later declared dead, army said.

The truck, fully loaded, has been sent to the nearest police station for a detailed search. Authorities are currently investigating the background of the suspect and the nature of the cargo, statement added.
