Srinagar Mayoral Elections Going to be Held on 25th November

Srinagar 19 November (KNB): The elections for the post of Mayor, Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) is going to be held on 25th of November.

Official sources confirmed to Kashmir News Bureau that the elections for the chief of the 74-member SMC, who is elected through a popular vote, is going to be held on 25th of this month.

Regarding the schedule of the election of Mayor, Municipal Corporation Srinagar, officials stated that the forms of nomination paper may be obtained from the office of the secretary SMC from 20th of November between the hours of 10 o’clock in forenoon and 4 o’clock in the after noon.

Nomination forms can be delivered to the secretary SMC between the hours of 10 o’clock in the forenoon and 4 o’clock in the afternoon but not later than 21st of November, by a candidate of his proposal, officials stated.

Officials further stated that the notice of withdrawal of candidature be delivered by a candidate at any time by or before 25th November, before the election is proceeded within the meeting.

It is believed that former Mayor Junaid Azim Mattu and former deputy Mayor Sheikh Imran are going to contest elections for the post.

Pertinently, Parvaiz Qadri has been Acting Mayor of Srinagar since 16th of June 2020, as Junaid Azim Mattu was removed from the position after losing a no-confidence motion moved against him in the city body. (KNB)
