Since 5 Years Nallah Aamir Khan Craving For Help, Locals Seek Its Proper Cleaning

KNB News Desk

Srinagar 16 March (KNB): The apathy of the LAWDA towards garbage accumulating at the floodgate in the Nallah Aamir Khan is taking a heavy toll on the people living nearby to it and on the flood channel itself as only superficial cleaning is being carried on it, said, locals.

Locals of the area said that the authorities seem non-serious about the issue as the five years have passed since the aggravating of the problem. “Some boats along with men were deployed recently to remove the garbage, but that is not enough. There should be proper cleaning being done from the LAWDA because it is a matter of the flood channel connected with the famous Gill Sar and Khushal Sar Lakes,”  said a local.

Of late in our previous story, one of the residents of the area had also claimed that during the times of flood, the channel helped a lot in the receding of the flood.

He had further said that there are chances of the residents of the area getting infected with the diseases if God forbid arises from the garbage accumulated around the flood gate.

Mohalla President, Abdul Rasheed Baba, said that they have been fighting for it for the last five years, and now the LAWDA has put a machine there called Batuk, which often breaks down.

“Some of the waste which was cleared from the Nallah has been kept on the banks, stinking the whole atmosphere and is leaving us ill. We talked to various officers of the LAWDA regarding the issue, but only false promises are made to clear garbage from the banks as well as from Nallah Aamir Khan,” Baba said.

Exen LAWDA Feroz Ahmad said that Nallah Aamir Khan’s cleaning has been kept in this year’s project, and within some weeks, we are generating the tenders regarding the same. “Our men are going to be there for it throughout the year, and besides cleaning, we will also start de-weeding in Nallah,” said Ahmad.

Regarding the start of work in Nallah from 1 April 2021, which he had assured last time, the Exen said they had not submitted the file yet and will do it after two to three days.

“Now funds are also available, but administrative and technical approvals are yet to come, and it will all be cleared within weeks. Besides, we will also do fencing of the bridges to prevent locals from throwing garbage into the Nallah,” said the Exen. (KNB)
