Srinagar 18 September (KNB): Alok Kumar Principal Secretary to Government of Youth Sports Service, on a recent scuffle incident at J&K Sports Council’s headquarters in Srinagar, said recording a video without consent is not acceptable.
On 15th of September, a girl claiming to be an athlete entered the JKCA headquarters while attempting to record a video on her mobile phone. When asked by the Secretary Nuzhat Gull about the reason behind her actions, the athlete took Nuzhat by surprise inside her office chamber and used Martial Art choking technique to strangulate her.
The girl, identified as Nuzhat Bashir, received heavy criticism and condemnation by athletes across the Valley for her actions. Bashir also took to social media platforms and stated her side of the incident.
However, speaking to reporters on the sideline of an inaugural event of Inter Zone District Level Sports Competition in Srinagar, Principal Secretary Alok Kumar, as per news agency Kashmir News Bureau said, “A sportsperson must have certain qualities such as being patient and disciplined.”
“So far, proper details about the matter have not been established but as per the initial reports the female Taekwondo player (Nighat Bashir) was recording a video which is not acceptable, until and unless one gives you permission,” Alok Kumar said, adding, “What has happened afterwards; why the scuffle took place and what exactly was the provocation, is something that needs to be looked into!”
He further said that a complaint has been filed by the Secretary Jammu and Kashmir Sports Council (JKCA), Nuzhat Gull and FIR has been registered also. “Police are investigating the matter and accordingly, will see what it reveals,” he added.
Moreover, about the aim of the Mega Sports event inaugurated today, Principal Secretary Alok Kumar said, “The purpose is to identify the players at every Panchayat level and then get them engaged in sports activities. So many teams are participating and for now it is only taking place at district level and in future these competitions will be held at Union Territory level.”
Alok Kumar said that from these district level competitions, players will be selected and further teams will be constituted for Union Territory level sports competitions.
“I have already requested the coaches to keep a good eye on players for the selections, as it serves a way for talent scouting also,” he said, asserting that there is no lack of talent among the youth of Jammu and Kashmir.
“This is the need of the hour; find the talented ones, train them and help them succeed,” Principal Secretary Kumar said.
Asked about the lack of sports related infrastructure in the far flung areas of the Union Territory, Alok Kumar responded, “In all the districts, sports facilities have already been provided. We are aiming to establish decent play fields in every panchayat and in many, the goal has been achieved already.”
“In Panchayats lacking play fields or land to establish the same; we are going to use the school grounds for the sports competitions,” he said and added that the department has already instructed the district level administrations to click Geo-Tagged photographs of the play fields in their respective panchayats and create a catalog of the same, so that the sportspersons can utilize it as well as the officials of the department will organise sports events there.
He further emphasised that to claim far flung areas lacking sports facilities is not appropriate and just a few panchayats lack proper land for the sports fields.
Alok Kumar said that the department yesterday has also written to the Principal Secretary Higher Education to set their playgrounds open from 4 Pm to 7 Pm and allow sports activities there.
Furthermore, He also informed that in just 10-15 days from now, a list of all the play fields in every panchayat will be uploaded on the departments website. (KNB)
