Srinagar 02 October (KNB): On the birthday of Mahatma Gandhi, a rare Ahimsa rally was carried out on Saturday in summer capital Srinagar’s Lal Chowk area.
One of the persons who was part of the Ahimsa march said to the reporters that they are carrying out a rally today to celebrate the Gandhi Jayanti and propagate the message of nonviolence and peace.
Several participants of the rally were carrying a large banner, which read “Kashmir Celebrates Gandhi Jayanti, March For Peace and Prosperity in Kashmir”.
During the Ahimsa Rally, one of the participants said that it is happening for the first time in Kashmir that a rally on Gandhi Jayanti is being carried out. “It is the first glimpse of it (Ahimsa March) and will continue to be carried out in future also. The reason behind taking out the rally is to propagate a message of peace, which is at present seen in the valley,” he said.
He further advised the youth to follow on the path of peace, which will open the ways of prosperity for Kashmir. “I want to give a message to youth on this day that nothing will be achieved by stone-pelting and if we follow peace then you will see how we are going to prosper,” he added.
He also said that women of Kashmir in current times do not feel restricted in their homes and are moving freely around in the society. “If this is not the peace than what it is,” he questioned.
