Srinagar 02 October (KNB): PDP Chief Mehbooba Mufti on Saturday expressed her concern about stopping people from offering prayers and obedience at mosques and shrines and said that it shows GOI’s disrespect for the sentiments of the majority community.

This was said by Mufti on the Annual Urs of Makhdoom Sahib where yesterday devotees were barred from entering the premises of the shrine and not allowed to conduct congregational overnight Shab-e-Khawani

“Preventing people from offering prayers & obeisance at mosques & shrines in Kashmir shows GOIs disrespect for sentiments of the majority community,” said Mehbooba Mufti, adding that “especially at a time when parks & public spaces are open & countless crowded govt functions held through the day. Reeks of bias.” (sic)

However, on the Urs of Makhdoom Sahib shrine today, one of the devotees said to Kashmir News Bureau that he came from Pulwama and was dejected to see the desolation around the shrine. He said that the restrictions have marred the celebration of Urs.

“On the one side functions are being conducted freely and on the other side we are being prevented from taking part in religious gatherings. This is clearly an uncalled for intervention into our religious practises,” said the devotee from Pulwama. (KNB)
