Protests Erupt Across J&K After Terror Attack in Pahalgam

Srinagar 22 April(KNB): Protests have been held across Jammu and Kashmir, including in Gantaghar, Lalchowk, Kupwara, and Anantnag, following a deadly terrorist attack in Pahalgam’s Baisaran meadow on Tuesday afternoon.

The attack, which killed 26 people, mostly tourists, and injured at least 20 others, is the deadliest in the Valley since the 2019 Pulwama strike.

The terrorists, reportedly from the banned Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terror group, opened fire on tourists gathered in the picturesque meadow, known as ‘Mini Switzerland’. The victims included people from several states, including Karnataka, Maharashtra, and Gujarat.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi strongly condemned the attack and assured that those behind it would be brought to justice. Union Home Minister Amit Shah briefed the Prime Minister and left for Srinagar to hold an urgent security review meeting with all agencies.

The attack has sparked widespread outrage, with protests held across Jammu and Kashmir. The families of those killed and injured have been taken to the government-owned Pahalgam Club under tight security. A team of officials from Karnataka has left for Kashmir to assist the families of the victims.(KNB)
