Police Rescue 5 Passengers Stuck by Heavy Snowfall at Namkila Pass, Kargil

Srinagar 23 October (KNB): Ladies among five passengers who had been stuck in a vehicle due to heavy snowfall at Namkila pass in Kargil were rescued and evacuated to a safer place by police on Saturday.   

Police said 05 passengers including ladies boarded in a vehicle were stuck near Namkila Pass between  Wakha-Khangral road due to heavy snowfall and the Police party from  PP Wakha  headed by I/C PP Wakha rushed on the spot and evacuated all the passengers at the safer place towards Khangral.

As per a police officer, the rescue operation was launched by Kargil Police under the close supervision of Ch. Iftkhar Ahmed Add. SP Kargil and overall supervision and directions of Anayat Ali Chowdhary, SP Kargil. 

He further said that Zojila Road (main road connecting UT Ladakh with the rest of India) has been closed in the intervening night of Friday – Saturday and 05 persons were stuck near Namkila pass after which a rescue operation was launched by Kargil Police. 

Police requested the general public not to go outside unnecessarily and in case of any emergency contact the Police Control Room and other officers heading various establishments of Kargil Police. (KNB)
