Police Busts Extortionist Gang Using Militant Names; Accuse Arrested

Bandipora 7 September (KNB): Bandipora police on Tuesday claimed to have busted an extortionist gang, using names of militants in order to threaten people in the town and extort money.

In a statement, officials said that police received an information that some unknown persons carrying knives were extorting money from people during evening hours in different areas of Bandipora town and threatening them using the name of militants.

A case was registered in PS Bandipora and investigation was started, officials added.

As per officials, during the investigation, with the help of all technical and other human leads, one suspect namely Aejaz Ahmad Sheikh R/O Bandipora was zeroed in and questioned.

“During questioning the person revealed and disclosed that he is involved in the commission of crime and also the knife was recovered on his disclosure,” officials said, adding that the accused person was arrested and further investigation is going on.

Officials also said that more arrests are expected in the case.

Moreover, Police said that the motive behind the crime was to extort money from common people after putting them in fear by using knife and name of militants. (KNB)
