Srinagar 14 July (KNB): Chief Engineer Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) Rafiq Ahmad Rafiq on Wednesday said that 200 km i.e., 25% of roads have been constructed so far in Kashmir division out of the total 800 km allocated for the financial year 2021-22.

Chief Engineer PMGSY while talking to News Agency Kashmir News Bureau said that the 200 km have been achieved from the target of 800 km. He also said that the assigned target of 800 km would pertain to the leftovers of the sanctioned schemes, which have been started from 2001.

He further said that out of total 1394 schemes for the varied works related to roads, 1064 have been completed by them.

Rafiq also said that the roads constructed from the total of 800 km would not be confined to one particular category of construction but includes different road related works — upgradation, fair weather, black topping and others.

Regarding the roads’ construction under PMGSY in the previous financial year, he said that 3167 km of road length was constructed in J&K out of the given target of 3500 km.

However, the government had also appreciated the department’s efforts, months ago, of completing a considerable part of the target.

It is pertinent to mention that the government has assigned 4200 km roads in J&K to be constructed during the financial year 2021-22 under PMGSY. Out of 4200 km, 800 km and 3400 km of road have to be constructed in Kashmir and Jammu, respectively. (KNB)
