Kupwara, Feb 12(KNB):Residents of Tilwanpora area of Lalpora Lolaab of North Kashmir’s Kupwara district are up in arms against Power Development Department (PDD) Kupwara for failing to give connection to the transformer in their locality.

Locals alleged that they are facing immense hardships in presence of low electricity as the area is densely populated and a single transformer is not sufficient to provide electricity to whole village while the authorities sanctioned and installed the second transformer in the area back in November last year but is yet to get functional.

They said that due to overload, the already installed transformer get damaged oftenly resulting in severe power cuts and low voltage forcing the local residents to suffer.

Mir Javeed, a local said, “More than five months have passed, but there is no effort by the concerned officials to get the transformer functional, till date not a single effort has been made to provide connection to the transformer to restore power supply in the village.”

Another local, Firdous Ahmad said, ” Here in Kashmir electricity crises arise mostly in winter, we are facing tremendous problems due to the low voltage of electricity, the transformer was installed months back in the area but is still there without any up gradation.”

While talking to Kashmir News Bureau, Muhammad Hussein Junior Engineer Power Development Department(PDD) of the area said, ” being recently appointed in area, I have no knowledge of the said issue , I assure that the issue will be addressed immediately.” (KNB).
