Nuthalapati Venkata Ramana Appointed As Next Chief Justice of India 

Srinagar 6 April (KNB): President of India Ram Nath Kovind on Tuesday appointed Nuthalapati Venkata Ramana as the 48th Chief Justice of India with effect from 24 April 2021.  

President of India is appointing the new CJI under the power conferred by clause (2) of Article 124 of Constitution of India. 

However, S A Bobde, who is the incumbent CJI, is going to retire on April 23.  

The order reads, “In exercise of the powers conferred by clause (2) of Article 124 of the Constitution of India, the President is pleased to appoint Shri Justice Nuthalapati Venkata Ramana, Judge of the Supreme Court, to be the Chief Justice of India with effect from 24th April, 2021.” (KNB)
