No Official Order For 19% Hike Yet; RTO Kashmir Warns Strict Action Against Violators

Srinagar 4 March (KNB): After the increase of 19% in the fare charges to placate transporters’ anger and prevent them from going on strike, the RTO Kashmir has warned those charging higher fares in the absence of official order from the government regarding the same.

Many passengers have been left with angry faces by the drivers and conductors after charging of previous fares with an additional 19%, the increment which was recently announced by the head of All Jammu & Kashmir Transporters Welfare Committee, without any formal orders, following the discussion with the authorities.

However, RTO Kashmir Ikram Ullah Tak told the Kashmir News Bureau that the 19% hike has not yet seen any official order, and the ones adding the same to the previous fares will not be exempt from punishment.

KNB had recently received a myriad of complaints from passengers against drivers and conductors charging more fares and alleged rude behaviour from the other end if one resisted paying charges, which the government has not yet approved.

Tak said that the drivers and conductors have only to charge previous fares till the official order regarding the 19% hike is generated.

“If any person is charged with more fare than what he used to pay, he should note down the number of the vehicle and send it to our department so that strict action will be taken against the violators,” he added. (KNB)
