Srinagar 29 May (KNB): Mayor of Srinagar Junaid Azim Mattu, Deputy Mayor Parvaiz Ahmad Qadri and Corporators of Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) called off their hunger strike on Saturday after Divisional Commissioner P K Pole assured that the issue will be examined and justice will be done.
On behalf of the newly appointed Chief Secretary Arun Kumar Mehta, the Div Com P K Pole visited the protesting corporators at SMC compound in Srinagar and on assurance that an enquiry will conducted within the a weeks time, the protestors called off their indefinite hunger strike and took off from the venue peacefully.
Moreover, an official Twitter account of the Divisional Administration Kashmir said, “Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Sh Pandurang K. Pole, IAS today met Hon’ble Mayor SMC, Dy. Mayor and councillors and assured that the issue will be examined and justice done. On the assurance Hon’ble Mayor, Dy. Mayor and councillors called off the protest.”
Sharing pictures of the meeting at the protesting site on Twitter, Mayor Mattu said, “Div Comm Kashmir, Mr. Pole visited SMC on behalf of Chief Secretary J&K and assured us the issues of the people we have raised would be addressed fairly and expeditiously. As we end our protest, I extend my humble gratitude to all fellow Corporators for being so resolute.”
Earlier, during the Special Session held in the afternoon at SMC, a resolution was passed seeking removal of the Joint Commissioner Planning Ghulam Hassan Mir.
“In a Special Session of the General Council of the Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) – a 3/4th majority of the Corporation unanimously passed a resolution seeking the removal of incumbent Joint Commissioner (Planning) and his replacement – as deemed fit by the Government,” Mayor Mattu had Tweeted.
Pertinent to mention that Mayor of Srinagar city, Junaid Azim Mattu, Deputy Mayor Parvaiz Ahmad Qadri along with 61 corporators of SMC on Thursday had staged an indefinite hunger strike against the allegedly corrupt and inefficient Joint Commissioner Planning, Ghulam Hassan Mir and sought his immediate removal.
