Rats Scampering Across Paediatrics Ward of GMC Baramulla

Srinagar 30 May (KNB): In a video coming out from Government Medical College, Baramulla on Sunday shows a raft of rats scampering on the floor of the Paediatrics ward during an intervening night of 29 and 30 May, giving attendants and patients a restless night.

The video was shot in the Paediatrics ward, meant for the medical care of children, by one of the attendants showing the rats scampering on the floor of the ward and one among them even trying to climb the frame of a bed on which a patient is lying.

However, another video clip showed two rats climbing to a cabinet beside a patient’s bed and eating food from a disposable container.

One of the attendants told Kashmir News Bureau that around three rats were moving on the floor during the last night, making her very afraid as there were only children admitted in the ward.

“It is very disappointing to see that rats were in the ward where children are admitted for medical care. It shows how careless the authorities here are,” said the attendant.

Another attendant said there was the possibility of patients being bitten by the rats, which could have certainly been a problem. “There must be a proper look into this issue,” the attendant said.

It is pertinent to mention that the sanitization of wards during the ongoing pandemic is given more stress, but the visuals from GMC Baramulla says otherwise. (KNB)
