Srinagar 18 November (KNB): A letter would be sent to the President of India from People’s Alliance for Gupkar Declaration (PAGD) to initiate a credible inquiry, i.e., the judicial inquiry into the killings of Hyderpora encounter, said PAGD Spokesperson Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami on Thursday.

On Hyderpora killings, Tarigami told reporters after PAGD’s meeting in Srinagar that there has been mourning in J&K and promised to take up the matter in Parliament. He said that they would indeed try to meet the President of India in this regard. “I want to tell all that just stop now, just stop now. Do not consider patience as silence. We would not allow Kashmir to become a graveyard,” he added.

“We want to ask everyone, is killing of citizens necessary for National Security? Even we have decided to send a letter to the President of India for credible inquiry, and that is a judicial inquiry only in our view,” said Tarigami.

Regarding the magisterial probe, he said that those who commit the things could not be its adjudicators. “We have a Constitution and Judiciary in our country, and a credible inquiry should be conducted so that people’s trust would remain intact in such institutions,” he added.

He reiterated for the judicial enquiry to be conducted in the Hyderpora killings and said that would be the only credible probe.

Tarigami emphasized on the importance of people’s lives and hinted at it taking precedence over the holding of elections in J&K. “We are not begging the government of India for elections, let them not. We want to secure lives of our people,” said Tarigami in response to a question from a reporter.

He further said that they were looking to visit the residence of the slain for condolence but were not allowed to go there. He added that all from Kathua to Srinagar should raise their voice for protection of human rights.  (KNB)
