Srinagar 15 September (KNB): Reasi Police on Wednesday said that they have arrested two drug peddlers and recovered heroin, poppy straw, illicit liquor and money proceeds of drugs trade.
Officials said that a team of Police Check Post Balini during checking noticed suspicious movement of one person who was coming from Reasi towards Katra and the person was chased and stopped for checking.
On sensing suspicion about drug peddling, the Executive Magistrate was called on the spot. During checking in the presence of the Executive Magistrate 43.5 grams of heroin-like substance having illegal market sale price of more than 2.5 lacs was recovered..
Police said that drugs money ₹ 43,500/- as proceeds of illegal sale of narcotics recovered from the possession of Pawan Singh aka Pammi, a resident of Sherpur (Serwad) Katra.
Later, an FIR No 203/2021 under section 8, 21, 22 NDPS Act was registered at Police Station Katra and the accused was also arrested.
However, the investigation has been set in to unearth the further of the accused linkages with other drug suppliers & consumers.
Officials further said that Pawan Singh is a notorious drug peddler of the area and was earlier arrested by a team of Police Station Katra with 40.5 grams of heroin and for which he is facing trial in FIR No 27/2020 under section 8, 21, 22 NDPS Act in Hon’ble Session Courts Reasi.
“In another incident of drug peddling team of Police Station Reasi laid a surprise naka at IRP Chowk Reasi and during surprise checking one tempo bearing registration number JK02AS 7616 driven by one Taj Mohd S/O Mohd Rafiq R/O Pouni coming from Pouni to Reasi was intercepted and during checking recovered poppy straw and 13 bottles of XXX Rum 750 ml each from the possession of the driver of the vehicle,” said police.
Later, an FIR no. 179/2021 under sections of 8,15 NDPS Act and 48 a Excise act is registered in Police Station Reasi. However, the accused was also arrested and the vehicle has been seized & further investigation was started to arrest the other accused in the chain.
As per the official, War against drugs continues in Reasi under the banner “EK YUDH NASHE KE VIRUDH” an initiative of Shailender Singh SSP Reasi against drug abuse is stretching to every nook and corner of the jurisdiction in which banned drugs are being seized, and offenders are being arrested.
“Under the drive, Reasi Police registered 119 Case FIRs of drug abuse & illicit liquor against 154 offenders since Shailender took over the charge of SSP Reasi in March 2021,” the official said. (KNB)
