Government Warns Media: Keep Children’s Identities Safe or Face Consequences

Strict Measures Implemented to Safeguard Vulnerable Children from CCIs and Darul Alooms

Srinagar, 28 March (KNB):- In a bid to protect the identities of vulnerable children, the Child Welfare Committee of Srinagar has issued a stern warning to media personnel found guilty of disclosing the identities of children in need of care and protection, or those in conflict with the law. The Committee, emphasized the gravity of the offense, citing relevant provisions of the Juvenile Justice (Care & Protection of Children) Act, 2015.

The circular, dated 28.03.2024, highlights repeated instances of media personnel violating child welfare laws by capturing and disseminating videos of children from Child Care Institutions (CCIs) and Darul Alooms. Despite previous appeals for restraint, some media individuals continued to disregard regulations, prompting the Committee to take decisive action.

In response to the persistent violations, the Committee has not only requested the Director of the Information Department to sensitize media professionals but has also mandated the verification of credentials for individuals carrying media equipment. This proactive measure aims to curb further transgressions and uphold the rights of children to privacy and protection.

Furthermore, the Committee issued directives to CCIs and Darul Alooms, instructing them to refrain from soliciting funds using children, warning of potential closure and legal repercussions for non-compliance.

The notice also serves as a final warning to all media persons, urging them to refrain from any form of identity disclosure of children. Failure to comply will result in legal action, including imprisonment and hefty fines, as prescribed by law.-KNB
