Kashmir 15 January (KNB): Today’s Google Doodle Honours Dr. James Naismith, a Canadian-American Physical Educator, sports coach and inventor of Basketball game.

Dr. Naismith left Canada for Springfield Massachusetts and invented the game (Basketball), wrote the game’s original rule book and founded the University of Kansas basketball program as well.

Naismith lived to see basketball adopted as an Olympic demonstration sport in 1904 and as an official event at the 1936 Summer Olympics in Berlin.

The popular search engine today honoured the contribution of Dr. Naismith to the sports world with an animation, in which,  two children can been seen throwing the ball into the hoop while a man, depicting Dr. James Naismith, is recording their score.

Pertinently, a Google Doodle is a special, temporary alteration of the logo on Google’s homepage intended to commemorate holidays, events, achievements, and notable historical figures. (KNB)
