Baramulla 06 Nov(KNB): Students at Government Medical College (GMC) Baramulla have urged the college administration to ensure affordable food prices in the upcoming cafeteria, which is currently undergoing the tendering process, stressing that reasonable rates should be a priority in the final tender conditions.
Students have called for their involvement in fixing prices of food items, arguing that the cafeteria should primarily cater to the student community, many of whom depend on it for their daily meals.
“One of the students said, ‘The prices of food items should be reduced. We are students and cannot afford the same prices as faculty members. Students should be involved in deciding the rates of products,’” a student said.
Another student suggested that the cafeteria should be operated on the lines of a hostel mess, with the contract awarded to the bidder willing to provide food at the lowest reasonable rates while maintaining quality and hygiene.
Students have also appealed to the administration to incorporate clear provisions regarding affordability, food quality and hygiene into the tender conditions, ensuring that the cafeteria remains accessible to students rather than becoming an expensive dining facility.
They said a student-friendly cafeteria with reasonable pricing would provide significant relief to those relying on it for their everyday meals.(KNB)
