Srinagar 30 July (KNB): A girl was kidnapped and two men allegedly molested and assaulted her sexually in south Kashmir Kulgam district.
Jammu and Kashmir police on Friday said that they have arrested a person allegedly involved in molesting and sexually assaulting the girl but another person is still absconding.
In a statement officials said, “Police Station Kulgam received a written complaint for assistance from the complainant stating that his daughter (name withheld) was kidnapped and thereof assaulted sexually by two persons namely Shahrukh Safdar Khan S/O Safdar Ahmad Khan and Ishfaq Ahmad Khan S/O Fayaz Ahmad Khan both the residents of Chattabal Kulgam.”
Adding that acting promptly on the complaint, a Case with FIR No. 183/2021 U/S 363, 376/511, 323 IPC was registered in Police station Kulgam and investigation was set into motion, officials added.
They further said that accordingly, a team headed by SHO Kulgam Insp. Jazib Mohammed under the supervision of DySP HQR Kulgam Ghulam Muhamad Bhat-JKPS was constituted to trace and nab the culprits.
Officials in the statement said that utilising all available means, specific information was generated by the investigating team and one accused person Shahrukh Safdar khan was arrested within one hour after the complaint was received in Police Station Kulgam.
“The girl after fulfilling all medical formalities has been handed over to her legal heirs, efforts are on to nab the another accused,” they added.
Seeking help from the general public, officials further stated, “community members are requested to extend cooperation to Police and any information regarding whereabouts of the absconded accused may be shared with SHO Kulgam on 7051510661, 6006074004. (KNB)
