Employees in Srinagar and Jammu Government Quarters to Pay Electricity Bills Based on Meter Readings: Govt Directive

Srinagar, 14 March (KNB): The Government of Jammu and Kashmir has announced a major overhaul of the electricity payment system for employees residing in government quarters in Srinagar and Jammu.

Under Circular No. 01-JK(PDD) of 2024, dated 14-03-2024, the government has revoked Government Order No. 301-GAD of 2013, which previously regulated electricity charges. Instead, the new order, Government Order No. 851-JK(GAD) of 2023, will come into effect, mandating the payment of electricity bills based on meter readings starting from 15-07-2023. However, until 14-07-2023, charges will continue to be levied on a flat rate basis.

Principal Secretary to the Government, H. Rajesh Prashad, has underscored the importance of implementing this new directive. Managing Directors of Jammu Power Development Corporation Limited (JPDCL) and Kashmir Power Distribution Corporation Limited (KPDCL) have been tasked with ensuring the seamless transition to the new billing system.-KNB
