DRDO Hospital Crosses 500 Admission Mark 

Srinagar 20 December (KNB): Defence Research Development Organisation (DRDO) Srinagar on Monday said that the facility has crossed the 500 admission mark after its inauguration in June this year. 

A statement issued here said that the admission of patients to DRDO hospital Srinagar was started from 15th June 2021 after its inauguration by LG on 9th June 2021.   

The DRDO hospital Srinagar has been working as an associated hospital of Govt. Medical College Srinagar and is supported with three Departments to manage Covid-19 pandemic, which are Anaesthesia and Critical Care, Medicine and Paediatrics. 

“The DRDO Srinagar has 510 beds consisting of 375 ward beds, 10 Triage, 125 ICU beds of which 25 are designated for Paediatric ICU. All beds are oxygen supported and the ICU has modern ventilators and all requisite infrastructures to manage critical Covid patients. The hospital is supported by high end labs, CT scan, Digital X-ray to facilitate diagnostics,” officials said in a handout issued here.

It was further said that DRDO Srinagar has contributed in managing the referral patients from other districts besides direct admissions. “Till date a total of 510 patients have been admitted to this hospital, out of which 433 have been discharged back to their homes in good health. Till date 90 patients have been admitted to ICU,” said officials. 

Hospital’s oxygen supply is ensured by 56 & 6 KL Liquid  Medical Oxygen tanks and two PSA Plants each of 1000lit/min capacity , besides the oxygen manifold. The highest number of patients were received in November, with 165 admissions and 126 discharges and 13 Deaths in that month, it added. 

It was further added that the hospital has received patients from all districts of Kashmir province till date. DRDO presently is also used as a Quarantine Centre for international travelers who test positive on RT PCR, who are further screened for omicron by Genomic sequencing. 

“The J&K Govt.’s initiative to create a separate DRDO facility for Covid has definitely helped the Districts to focus on routine health care, as this hospital has been created to handle and manage any further spread and Waves. Till date the Lab’s have conducted more than 8000 tests and 1000 x-ray. All patients are provided treatment free of cost, as the treatment is supported by JK Govt. and DRDO authorities,” the officials added. (KNB)
