Srinagar 12 November (KNB): Consequent upon Weather forecast Issued by Indian Metrology, Department J&K Srinagar, Acting Mayor Srinagar Parvaiz Qadri along with Div Com PK Pole and Commissioner SMC Gazanffar Ali took a review of Snow Clearance Action Plan formulated by SMC to deal with any eventuality in case of heavy snow fall or rains.
While talking to media, Acting Mayor Srinagar Parvaiz Qadri said that during the winters of last year we had witnessed several issues like waterlogging etc. but this year we are already preparing to tackle any situation like snowfall or heavy rains in the region.
Addressing the media Div. Com PK Pole said that snowfall is necessary and helpful in many ways but it also causes several inconveniences to the public and for that the administration has already prepared.
He said, “PDW, NHI and BRO will look after the roads outside the city while as roads inside the city will be the concern of municipal corporation/municipal community”.
“Regarding the waterlogging issue, Lift Water Supply scheme and Gravity are there to tackle it. Gravity will look at the bursting of water pipes and in advance the supply of new pipes was provided to the concerned authority, where as Lift Water Supply scheme faces the issue of power cuts which result in non-functioning of their pumps and for that have been allotted DG-sets as well as bought 10 new mobile DG-sets for the same,” PK Pole said.
Regarding the preparations of Power Department in the valley, PK Pole said that, “They have created more than 700 transformer banks in the valley and are looking forward to increase the numbers”.
In the city, in case of any issue, within 24 hours the department must replace transformers and in rural areas replacement of transformers should take place in maximum 72 Hours, he said.
He further said that the stocking of LPG and food and supplies has already been done, as well as other medical preparations have been taken well care of.
Commissioner SMC Gazanfar Ali said that we have 5-6 machines ready to tackle the waterlogging issue and around 30 machines to clean the snow off the roads.
We have bought 8 new tractors’ through Mechanical Engineering Division, tenders of which are uploaded online as well, he said.
He added that 2 tractors would be appointed to each zone among the 4 zones that come under our jurisdiction.
Ali further assured that SMC is fully equipped to tackle any situation.
During the review the SMC workers stood along the equipment’s and several machines were displayed.
The Acting Mayor, Srinagar directed all the concerned officers of SMC to gear up their men & machinery and remain available on a short call.
In the meeting it was decided that SMC shall organize a special camp at Central Office Karan Nagar and inaugurate newly purchased 45-50 HP Category 4×4 Wheel Drive Tractor dully fitted with wedge plough for Snow clearance in Srinagar city.
Further stated that they will also issue necessary conservancy items like iron spade, square/round nose, shovels, pick axes, and brooms etc. to the concerned staff of SMC for their use in field for snow clearance. (KNB)
