‘Employees are the backbone of SMC, demands would be solved on fast track basis,’ Shiekh Imran
Srinagar, Jan 03: A day after Deputy Mayor appealed Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) employees to resume their duties, employees on Friday call off their strike.
Deputy Mayor Sheikh Mohammad Imran on Friday welcomed the decision SMC employees to resume their duties from Saturday, stating that only dialogues can solve problems.
Imran said that people in every corner of the city were suffering due to the ongoing strike of the SMC employees. He said heaps of garbage is present in every corner of the city including city centre Lal Chowk.
“I have assured the agitating employees that action will be taken against the guilty persons,” Imran said adding that their demands would be fulfilled on fast track basis.
SMC employees who are strike from past 4 days, has badly affected the sanitation work in the city, he said.
In response to the strike, Imran said they were engaging with the agitating employees to get them to call off the strike. It has also affected the door to door collection of garbage in the city, he said.
Imran urged SMC employees, to work together and with coordination that will benefit for the development of Srinagar smart city. “Wherever SMC employees need my support and help I will be ready always,” he said.
“Various other demands are under consideration, which includes online payment for sanitation workers and other related demands,” he said adding that employees are the backbone of the SMC and their demands would be solved on priority basis.
