Srinagar 13 November (KNB): The Jammu and Kashmir government has transferred 108 standalone primary schools in Srinagar and Jammu Municipal limits respectively to Srinagar Municipal Corporation and Jammu Municipal Corporation

It further stated that the School Education shall post the staff of these schools on deputation basis and the department will also be cadre-controlling authority of staff posted in these schools.

In October, Public Works (R&B) Department (J&K) ordered devolution of functions, functionaries and resources to the Urban Local Bodies in alignment with mandate of 74th Constitutional Amendment Act.

The order stated transfer of 213 roads falling under the municipal limits of district Jammu having width below 5.50 Kms to Jammu Municipal Corporation, transfer of 364 roads falling under the municipal limits of district Srinagar having width below 5.50 Kms to Srinagar Municipal Corporation.

Further stated, transferring of Tawi Bridge cum Medical College Division Jammu to Jammu Municipal Corporation and City Roads Division Srinagar to Srinagar Municipal Corporation respectively along with posts.

It also stated that the transfer of O&M Grants from the year 2020-21 allocated under revenue and capital grants may be considered by the Finance Department from the FY  2021-22 to both the corporations.

These transfers has certainly increased responsibilities of SMC and JMC towards their respected regions, in fact as it is the winter season in Kashmir, to tackle the issues like clearing snow from roads, waterlogging, etc. SMC has already pulled up their sleeves and have been putting great effort into preparing for the worst-case scenario.
