Srinagar, July 19 (KNB): Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Sunday cut short his New Delhi visit and left for Jammu to personally assess the prevailing weather situation following adverse weather warnings issued for several parts of the Jammu division.
According to an official statement, the Chief Minister said the evolving weather conditions required his immediate presence in Jammu to oversee the administration’s preparedness and ensure prompt response to any weather-related emergencies.
In a post on X, In light of the weather warning put out by the meteorological department & the seriousness of the situation unfolding across parts of Jammu division I will leave Delhi to fly to Jammu this afternoon to personally monitor the situation on the ground. The statehood protest will go ahead under the leadership of @JKNC_ President Dr Farooq Abdullah as planned.
He, however, clarified that the National Conference’s scheduled protest in New Delhi seeking the restoration of Jammu and Kashmir’s statehood would continue as planned.
Omar Abdullah said the demonstration would be led by JKNC President Dr. Farooq Abdullah, reaffirming the party’s commitment to its demand for the restoration of full statehood to Jammu and Kashmir.
The Chief Minister’s decision comes amid heavy rainfall and worsening weather conditions in several districts of the Jammu region, with the administration remaining on alert to deal with any weather-related eventuality. (KNB)
