Srinagar 09 August (KNB): A Sarpanch and his wife, a Panch, were shot dead by Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) militants in South Kashmir Anantnag district’s Lal Chowk area on Monday afternoon, as per IGP-K Vijay Kumar.
As per an official, the Sarpanch, Ghulam Rasool Dar and his wife Jawahira Banoo were killed when militants barged into their rented accommodation and fired upon the duo.
Following the attack, both were shifted to hospital for medical intervention but died while in transit to hospital. The deceased Sarpanch was affiliated with BJP who was killed along with his wife.
As per IGP Kashmir, both deceased used to live in a secured hotel in Kulgam initially but had later shifted to their home after requesting for the same.
He further said that LeT outfit’s militants were behind the attack.
“Extremely sorry to hear that BJP District President & his wife have been shot dead by militants today. My condolences to their families & loved ones,” tweets PDP Chief Mehbooba Mufti after the incident.
“I unequivocally condemn the assassination of Ghulam Rasool Dar & his wife. They join a long list of mainstream politicians killed for their political beliefs. My condolences to his family & colleagues. May Allah grant the departed place in Jannat,” tweets NC VC Omar Abdullah. (KNB)
