Awantipora Police Busted LeT Module, Averted Major Attack: IGP Kashmir

Srinagar 10 March (KNB): Inspector General of Police Kashmir today said that Awantipora Police busted a Lashkar-e-Toiba module and averted a major attack planned to take place in Pampore.

In a press conference in Srinagar today, IGP Kashmir Vijay Kumar said that at the behest of a newly recruited militant by LeT, Omar Khanday—who was involved in the attack and killing of two police person at Baghat Chowk (Srinagar)—had planned an IED or Fidayeen attack in Pampore area, near MC building.

Vijay Kumar said that Police received intel about the involvement of one person, Musaib Ahmed Gujri, resident of Nalbal, Pampore and accordingly a cordon was initiated in the area and afterwards he was arrested.

After interrogating Musaib, he revealed information about a container at his house, containing 25 Kilograms of Ammonia, IGP said, adding that Police along with him went to his house and recovered the power used for creating explosives.

Musaib was further asked about other items needed for the attack, to which he responded that it (material) was going to be supplied from north Kashmir, IGP said.

Vijay Kumar said that Musaib revealed information about two other associates, who were assisting him in the attack, Muneeb Mushtaq Sheikh and Shahid Ahmad Sofi and both were arrested.

He added that the module was started through online social media applications.

Furthermore, IGP Kashmir congratulated Awantipora Police for busting and averting the attack. (KNB)
