Assignment of New Reg. Mark: HC Directs Transport Dept. Heads to Not Take 9% Token Tax From Vehicles’ Owners

Srinagar 10 November (KNB): The High Court of J&K and Ladakh has directed the concerned Transport department heads to not take 9% token tax from owners of the vehicles who have already paid the tax at the time of registration from outside the UT. 

As per an order from the High Court “learned counsel for the petitioner submits that the respondents are demanding 9% token tax from the owners of the vehicles of those who have applied for assignment of new registration mark in the UT of J&K even though their vehicles are duly registered outside J&K and have already paid life time tax on those vehicles against the judgment and order.” 

It was further said by the High Court that there shall be no demand made of 9% token tax from the owners of the vehicles who have already paid the tax at the time of registration from outside the UT. 

The court has also directed the respondents that the response shall be filed within three weeks failing which all the respondents shall appear in person. (KNB)
