Srinagar 22 December (KNB): Family of a woman arrested from Allochi Bagh Srinagar on Wednesday staged a protest at the press enclave claiming that they are unaware as to why their daughter was picked up. Police, however, have clarified that she is a ‘habitual drug peddler’.
The family members of the woman (name withheld) held a protest at Press Enclave alleging excesses by the police and claimed that they were asleep when the police raided their residence.
“They were carrying a polythene bag with them. They ransacked our house,” protesters claimed.
Police while talking to KNB clarified that the lady in question already has a case registered against her under the NDPS act.
Police had earlier nabbed a drug peddler and recovered contraband substance from the possession.
Police said that they had arrested a drug peddler in possession of eight sachets of heroin and on further disclosure, another recovery of it was made from the lady arrested today.
“During investigation the name of the lady from Aloochi bagh surfaced. And we recovered contraband substances from her as well,” said the police official.
The officer also said that the lady is a habitual drug peddler and already has a case under NDPS act registered against her in 2020.
“The family of the woman in question has accepted that she is into this thing,” Police clarified and refuted claims of the family. (KNB)
