Srinagar 8 May (KNB): Administrative staff workers of the SKIMS Soura and SMHS Srinagar are miffed with the government for not keeping them in the list of the Covid warriors who were decided to be given financial incentives.

The government had on May 4 in its order said that the financial incentives of Rs 10,000 would be given to Resident Doctors, PGs and Medical Officers; Rs 7,000 for Paramedical staff/ nursing staff and Rs 5,000 for drivers, class IV which includes NOs/Sweepes. But the administrative staff of hospitals like SKIMS Soura and SMHS have been dejected as they found themselves nowhere in it.

One of the staff workers from SKIMS Soura said that it is not right to give incentives to one and to ignore the other when both are in the same boat.  “We are also constantly under the threat of contracting virus and are consistently working in the hospital since the emergence of pandemic,” he said, adding, “Therefore, it is not fair to keep us out of the list of those who have been decided to give financial incentives.”

While another worker from the SMHS said that he thinks himself a Covid warrior and the financial incentive should be given to workers like him too.

However, another important Covid facility in Srinagar, SKIMS Bemina has not been included in the list, which is demoralising the doctors and staff working there.

“Given JVC being designated as Covid and triage centre, it is unfathomable to keep this facility out of the list,” said a doctor on the basis of anonymity.  “We too are fighting the Covid as other doctors and paramedical staff are in other hospitals so why this facility has been disregarded by the government,” he said.

It is pertinent to mention that the government has kept ten hospitals on the list, the Covid warriors of which are to be given financial incentives during the peak pandemic period of three months, starting from May 2021. (KNB)
