Srinagar, September 1 (KNB): The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has trapped and arrested two police officers for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 15,000 in lieu of closing a case as “Not Admitted” between the parties.
The ACB said it received a written complaint alleging that PSI Karanjeet Singh, Investigating Officer of Case FIR No. 65/2026 registered at Police Station Ram Munshi Bagh, Srinagar, had demanded illegal gratification from the complainant through his accomplice, Sub-Inspector Ravi Jee Bhat of Police Station Ram Munshi Bagh.
According to the complaint, the bribe was allegedly sought for closing the case as “Not Admitted” between the parties.
Upon receipt of the complaint, the ACB conducted a verification of the allegations, which prima facie established the demand for illegal gratification.
Subsequently, Case FIR No. 12/2026 under Sections 7 and 7A of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, read with Section 61(2) of the BNS, was registered at Police Station ACB Srinagar and investigation was taken up.
During the course of investigation, a trap team was constituted. The team caught Sub-Inspector Ravi Jee Bhat of Police Station Ram Munshi Bagh red-handed while allegedly demanding and accepting Rs 15,000 on behalf of the Investigating Officer, PSI Karanjeet Singh, from the complainant.
The bribe amount was recovered from the possession of the accused in the presence of independent witnesses. He was subsequently taken into custody in accordance with law.
The ACB said PSI Karanjeet Singh, who was allegedly involved in the conspiracy, was subsequently arrested by the Bureau.
