Srinagar, May 6 (KNB): In a striking protest highlighting the deteriorating education scenario in Karnah, a local resident walked barefoot to the Directorate of School Education Kashmir (DSEK) office in Srinagar, demanding immediate intervention to address the shortage of teachers and administrative lapses in the area.

While speaking to news agency Kashmir News Bureau, Fayaz Karnai said that the people of Tanghdar have been facing serious administrative neglect, claiming that the post of Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) has been vacant for the past seven months.

He further alleged that several Rehbar-e-Taleem (ReT) teachers posted in the area have managed to attach themselves in Srinagar, leaving local schools understaffed. Citing an example, Karnai said that Government Boys Middle School Murimohalla Gabra in Karnah has around 150 छात्रों but only three teachers to cater to them.

“Similar conditions prevail in other schools as well, severely affecting the education of our children,” he added.

Karnai said he had earlier met the Chief Education Officer (CEO) Kupwara regarding the issue, but was told that the matter was beyond his jurisdiction. “Today, I met the Director of School Education, who assured me that a solution will be worked out within two to three days,” he said.

He warned that if no concrete action is taken within a week, they will be left with no option but to approach the Lieutenant Governor.

Explaining his unique mode of protest, Karnai said, “Our students are drifting away from studies due to lack of proper facilities. We have decided that until our issues are resolved, we will continue to walk barefoot to every concerned department.”(KNB)
