Srinagar 23 September (KNB): Three militants were killed by forces in an infiltration bid in North Kashmir’s Uri Hathlanga forest area during morning hours on Thursday, said General Officer Commanding (GOC) 15 Corps D P Pandey.

He said that the infiltration bid was eliminated by alert troops along the Line of Control (LoC). Pandey said that a similar bid was made on 18th of this month in the hours of darkness, which was foiled. “In about a one week of time, one infiltration was foiled and one was eliminated,” said GOC 15 Corps D P Pandey.

Army officer who had conducted the Uri operation said “On the morning of 23 September at around 0600 hours three individuals started to cross over to his side of the line of control. Later, there was a fire fight in which three militants were killed.”

Army officer said that the recoveries made from the slain militants includes 5 rifles, 7 pistols, 1 revolver, 5 magazines, 24 UBGL grenades, 38 Chinese grenades, 7 Pakistani hand grenades, Rs. 35000 Indian Currency, Rs. 10300 Pakistani Currency and some eatables.

During the press conference, IGP-K Vijay Kumar said that with the prevailing peace in the valley following the death of SAS Geelani besides other eventful things happening here, Pakistan has been frustrated.

He said that in a new modus operandi, part time militants are given pistols to carry out target killings. “In this year so far 97 pistols have been recovered, which shows Pakistan’s agenda to pump in here a maximum number of pistols and grenades. As you have seen the grenade attacks are being carried out, which is a modus operandi to create fear and hamper the flow of tourists,” said IGP-K. (KNB)
