Srinagar 14 April (KNB): Joggers’ Park, situated in Rajbagh, Srinagar, within the span of around nine years, has turned into an absolute mess as the gymnastic equipment, lawn tennis court and others are depicting grim conditions.

Jogger’s park was inaugurated by the former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah in 2012 for the recreational activities as different sports facilities were put up there for the senior and younger ones.

Locals who visited the park usually said that the water has submerged the lawns and is there for a time now.  “The gymnastic equipment installed within the park is unable to be used, and the waterlogging accompanied by mud has been a problem for the joggers and those coming for other recreational means,” said a local youth.

He said that barely some area is left for jogging in the park, and the lawn tennis court here is bedaubed by the mud. See the toilets here; one flinches before going in to relieve himself.

The Joggers’ park covered an area of 2.50 hectares of land and was developed at the cost of 2.54 crores, but the system put in place to avoid the current mess seems to be not mulled over by the then authorities.

While talking to Director Floriculture Kashmir, Farooq Ahmad Rather, about the present condition of Joggers’ Park, he said that he would find out where the deficiency has remained given that the gardeners and other maintainers are there to look after it.

Regarding the waterlogging in the park, he said they are finding alternatives for the same and said that the problem would not have been of such magnitude if a drain had been in the park’s adjacent.

About the time frame in which the issue would be redressed, he did not cite any date but said that it would be resolved as every matter needs to be addressed. (KNB)
