Srinagar 12 April (KNB): The Supreme Court on Monday rejected the petition filed by Waseem Rizvi to remove the 26 verses of the Quran, which he claimed to propagate ‘violence’
A bench headed by Supreme Court’s Justice Rohinton Fali Narimanin, dismissed Rizvi’s petition and also imposed a fine of Rs. 50,000. The Bench has said that the petition is absolutely frivolous.
Rizvi’s statement — on the 26 verses he claimed to propagate violence — had outraged the Muslims throughout the country. The same was witnessed in Kashmir, and the statement was denounced by both the Shia and Sunni clerics.
“We are happy to hear that the petition has been dismissed and it is answer to those who seek to create a communal disharmony,” said a local. (KNB)
