Naushera, Jan 7(KNB): India has lost a revered war hero and veteran of the Indian Army, Hav Baldev Singh (Retd), who passed away on January 6, 2025, at the age of 93 due to natural causes in his hometown of Naushera.
Born on September 27, 1931, in Naunihal, Naushera, Hav Baldev Singh’s life was a testament to patriotism and courage. At just 16, he joined the Bal Sena Force under Brigadier Usman’s leadership during the Battle of Naushera and Jhangar in 1947-48. The Bal Sena, comprising local boys aged 12-16, served as dispatch runners for the Indian Army.
Hav Baldev Singh’s distinguished service spanned nearly three decades, including multiple wars such as the 1961, 1962, and 1965 Indo-Pak Wars. He was recalled during the Indo-Pak War of 1971 and served in the 11 JAT Battalion for eight months.
Throughout his career, Hav Baldev Singh received numerous honors, including recognition by Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and Vice President Hamid Ansari.
The last rites will be held at his village of Naunihal, Naushera, today at 12:00 PM with full military honors and service protocols. Our heartfelt condolences go out to his family and all those who were touched by his remarkable life and unwavering dedication to the nation.(KNB)
