Bags made of waste cloths aimed to replace polythene ‘bags in the state’
Jammu, Jan 17: Under the second phase of Swachh Bharat Mission- Gramin, the Directorate of Rural Sanitation, Jammu and Kashmir launched a “Wealth from Waste” initiative to provide alternative of polythene bags in the state.
In this regard, a detailed interactive session was conducted at Village Chaklala of block Bishnah on Thursday with women group falling under Solid and Liquid Resources Management (SLRM) plant, after a consignment of 800 bags of waste cloth made by them was sold to Director Horticulture, Planning and Marketing in a function held at Kissan Ghar, Fruit and Vegetable Market Narwal, earlier this week.
The session was held under the supervision of Director Rural Sanitation, J&K, in which apart from an amount of Rs 20, 000 was handed over to them before Panchayati members for their first consignment of bags, but was also organized to revive the SLRM plant at Chaklala.
“To give these bags a modern touch and make them attractive for market, an advanced tailoring training will be provided to the women,” Director Indu Kanwal Chib said, adding, each group of 20 members will be formed by Block Project Manager, JKSLRM for the same.
During the program, banners made of waste cloths were displayed to replace flex hoardings. Also, plastic water bottles were not used.
On the occasion, former MLA, Bishnah Ashwani Kumar Sharma provided duck feed for ducks kept at SLRM plant for cleaning pond water and made a commitment to provide tailoring machines to the women folk.
Members from Pollution Control Board, Block Development Office, ZSBP and locals participated in the programs.
“This women led initiative has the strength and scope to create a revolution and transform the State of J&K into a plastic free state,” Mission Director SBM-G said.
