Shopian, Jan 22(KNB): Two militants were killed in an encounter that raged between government forces and militants since early morning today in Shirmal orchards of south Kashmir’s Shopian district.
As per the reports, A joint team of army’s 44 RR and SOG of Jammu and Kashmir police launched a search operation in Shirmal orchards after credible inputs about presence of some militants.
As the forces intensified searches towards the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon them triggering a gunfight.
Meanwhile, clashes erupted near the gunfight site, youths hit the streets and pelted government forces with stones. The forces, used pellet fires to disperse the protesting youths as a result several youths have suffered injuries and have been referred to differetnt hospitals and primary health centres for treatment.
More over, The authorities have suspended the mobile internet services in the district as a “precautionary measure”.
