Srinagar 24 August (KNB): In a heart-wrenching incident, a woman tragically lost her life at SMHS Hospital due to complications arising from pneumonia. The family of the deceased has raised serious concerns, claiming that the hospital administration failed to provide a timely bed and adequate oxygen support, ultimately leading to her demise.
The woman namely Masrat wife of Nazir Ahmed Thoker resident of Dangarpora Baramulla was admitted to SMHS Hospital with pneumonia.
Family of deceased told KNB that as her condition deteriorated, her oxygen levels began to drop significantly, reaching a critical point at 10:00 PM.
Despite desperate pleas, hospital did not have a vacant bed available, depriving her of the urgent medical attention she needed, he said.
The lack of oxygen support further exacerbated the situation, resulting in her tragic passing
The incident has sparked outrage and calls for accountability within the community. The family’s allegations of inadequate facilities at SMHS Hospital have raised concerns about the state of healthcare infrastructure and resources in the region
When contacted by KNB, the Medical Superintendent of SMHS Hospital expressed regret, stating that due to the current non-availability of beds in the ICU, we are unable to provide a bed, as all the existing beds were occupied.
Despite multiple attempts, KNB was unable to reach Bhupinder Kumar (IAS), Administrative Secretary, Health and Medical Education Department J&K, by phone for comment on the incident.
