Srinagar, November 11 (KNB): In a devastating incident, a massive fire erupted in houseboats along Ghat no. 09 in Dal Lake Srinagar on Saturday morning.
The blaze rapidly spread consuming five houseboats – Safeena, Sabreena, Young Gulshan, Lala Rukh and Khar Palace along with seven residential huts and neighboring houses.
Three tourists from Bangladesh, Anindaya Kowshal, Das Gupta and Mohammad Moinud lost their lives in the fire while staying in houseboat Safeena.
Swift action by Srinagar Police, SDRF, Tourist Police, F&ES and civilians led to the successful rescue and evacuation of eight individuals from the affected houseboats.
An investigation is underway, with a fire incident report filed at Police Station Ram Munshi Bagh.-KNB
