Traditional Horse Drawn Carriage Banned in Sopore

Sopore 11 February (KNB): Authorities imposed a blanket ban on Tongas, traditional horse drawn carriage on Wednesday, in Sopore town of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.

Officials said that the step has been taken to relocate the cart vendors and hawkers to specified area as well as to ensure smooth traffic movement in the town and reduce problems for management of traffic.

Earlier, steps were taken for relocation of street vendors and hawkers to run their businesses, due to which smooth traffic movement was observed but the tongas still have been creating problems in managing the traffic across the town, officials said, adding that the administration has issued an order which bans the movement of Tongas in the town and disciplinary action will be taken against those who don’t ply with it.

Officials further informed that the Tongawallas would be availed compensation through government schemes in order to have a better livelihood. (KNB)
