Three Militants, Seven Civilian Killed in Kulgam

Srinagar October 21 (KNB): Three militants killed by security forces on Sunday during an encounter which took place in Larnoo area of Kulgam district of South Kashmir between militants and forces.




After the operations were concluded by the security forces an explosion was witnessed on the encounter site which claimed lives of Seven civilians. According to reports, more than a dozen were injured in the blast that took place at the encounter site after forces left the site.

The injured were shifted to Srinagar, with reports coming from the hospital , the condition of the injured is said to be serious. Meanwhile, two Army jawans were also injured in the encounter , as per reports .

According to police official, “Civilians visited the encounter site immediately after the operation in spite of (our) request not to go there as a thorough search is to be made for explosives once flames douse. They did not listen and visited the spot immediately after the forces withdrew.  Some explosive substance went off, resulting in injuries to civilians. One civilian namely Ubaid Laway, a resident of Laroo, died in the incident,”

After reports emerged that two to three militants were reportedly holed up in a house in the area , a massive search operation had been launched in the area , Earlier in the day.

​”The encounter concluded just now and I have been told that three militants were killed in it. The operation is being wound up. Their identity is yet to be ascertained,” DGP Dilbag Singh said, as per ANI .

However, Internet and mobile services had been suspended in the region in the morning, shortly after the gunfight broke out.

“The  Militants were idenified as Zubair Ahmad Lone of Awahtoo Kulgam, Yazil Makroo of Arwani Anantnag and Shahid ul Islam Tantary of Wangam Shopian.



A police official was quoted saying ,”As the cordon was tightened, the militants fired at the security forces. The injured soldier was immediately shifted to a hospital. Two to three militants are believed to be hiding inside a residential house in the area under cordon.” (KNB)
