Srinagar 25 December (KNB): Scores of Sumo drivers on Saturday staged a protest outside the office of SSP Traffic City Srinagar against the seizure of their vehicles.

The protesting sumo drivers raised slogans against the seizure of the vehicles by the traffic police and said that their vehicles were barred from entering the city after the order from High Court in this regard.

“We are all dependent upon the vehicle. What else can we do when our vehicles get impounded by the traffic department? Government is not thinking about us, not even the Lieutenant Governor,” said one of the aggrieved sumo drivers.

The driver further said that the High Court order is being cited as a reason behind the seizure of their vehicles. “We are being told that the High Court has ordered for sumos to not enter into the city,” the driver said.

He further said that he had to sell his mother’s ring finger, “which she gave me to get my vehicle released but nothing materialised.”

Other drivers in the protest also narrated their plight ‘which has been further aggravated by the seizure of their vehicles by the city traffic department.’ (KNB)
