SMC Fail to Respond RTI, Indicates Lack of Transparency; Corporation Hiding Critical Information

Srinagar 15 May (KNB): Srinagar Municipal Corporation failure to respond to several RTIs within the guaranteed time, indicates that the corporation has critical information to hide, sources said.

Information regarding several matters, such as recruitment of employment, contracts awarded to particular advertisers, Tenders and procedures related to it, etc. was asked under Jammu and Kashmir’s RTI Act 2005, filed on 9th of April 2021.

Regarding the same, a reliable source told news agency Kashmir News Bureau that there is no other reason than to just hide information, which will most probably reveal major flaws, vested interests of people, regarding the matters seeked by the applicant in these RTIs.

“I’ve gone through the RTI’s myself and based on my personal inputs the information, if given, will reveal major scams taking place within the corporation,” source said, adding that several officials’ vested interests takes down the image of whole corporation.

These scams vary from employment to tendering processes, from basic to up-top processes, the source added.

Source further added that there are rightful, lawful steps that need to be taken for the sake of informing people about the working mechanism of the SMC.

This shows that people deserve and are trying to know about all that is going on inside the corporation, source said.

Moreover, regarding the RTIs, the applicant said that they will keep up with the work enthusiastically and try their best to reveal the vested interest of those who misuse public money.

Pertinent to mention that the applicant has already filed First Appeal after completion of stipulated time period of 30 days. (KNB)
