Srinagar, 17 November (KNB):The administration has extended the ban on Friday prayers at the historic Jama Masjid Srinagar for the sixth consecutive week. Mirwaiz Kashmir Moulvi Muhammad Umar Farooq remains under house detention during this period.
Anjuman Auqaf, in a statement to Kashmir News Bureau-KNB, expressed discontent over the decision, attributing the repeated targeting of the grand mosque to the ongoing conflict between Palestine and Israel. The organization criticized the authorities for detaining Mirwaiz-e-Kashmir, stating that the actions contradict the claims of normalcy in the region.
The statement highlighted the ban on prayers at Al-Aqsa Mosque by the Israeli state during the conflict with Palestinians, drawing a parallel to the situation in Kashmir.
Anjuman Auqaf emphasized that the continuous ban on Friday prayers at Jama Masjid and restrictions on Mirwaiz-e-Kashmir’s activities hurt the religious sentiments of Kashmiri Muslims, challenging the narrative of normalcy put forth by the administration.
Calling for a revision of the decision, Anjuman Auqaf urged authorities to allow prayers at the grand mosque and enable Mirwaiz Umar Farooq to fulfill his religious duties as the Mirwaiz of Kashmir.
The organization contends that such measures are essential to respect the religious sentiments of the Kashmiri Muslim community. statement added-KNB
